I Get My 'V' From Her

She was amazing. The best Grandma this girl could ask for. She was fun and so easy to be around. I always knew she wanted me there.

She taught me the love of words. She taught me that a person can never be bored. And as a result, I never am. I always have something to do as she said. She encouraged the love of creative ventures and brought silliness to my life.

As a young girl I always loved being with her. As an adult I went to see her as often as I was able. After I became a Mom, when Jim would work out of town, her house was the place I went to. I loved being with her … each visit was so special to me.

She was born Virginia Ann Zornes to James F Zornes and Clara Delphine Lindsay on July 10, 1911. She was one of two children, her brother Milford Zornes became a famous watercolorist. On one occasion at the family ranch in Cuyama, Grandma created an opportunity for Uncle Milford to critique my watercolor. What a thrill that was for me.

Grandma died on August 18, 1998.
